Cat built many on-highway truck engine families and configurations. The complete engine identity matters: a familiar model name alone may not resolve the serial prefix, arrangement, horsepower, emissions configuration or installed application.
Identify the engine before selecting the path
Johnson reviews Cat on-highway truck engine service and parts inquiries using the engine data plate, truck VIN, symptoms and history. Common family names such as 3406, C-10, C-12, C11, C13, C-15, C15 and C16 are useful starting points, not complete fitment records.
Complete model and serial
Photograph the engine data plate and enter the full serial number or serial prefix exactly as shown.
VIN, make, model and year
The engine is installed in a truck with its own identity and configuration. Include both records.
Arrangement and rating
Include arrangement, horsepower, emissions or REPTO information when visible in the records or data plate.
What changed?
Describe warning information, smoke, temperature, pressure, fluid use, leaks, noise, power loss and the operating conditions.
Recent service and parts
List recent maintenance, repairs, overhaul history, fluid or filter changes and installed part numbers when known.
What outcome do you need?
State whether you need a service review, component identification, parts sourcing help or a discussion of next-step options.
Service and parts requests Johnson can review
Johnson evaluates on-highway engine requests involving maintenance needs, cooling and lubrication concerns, fuel and air-system components, gaskets and seals, sensors and harnesses, turbocharger or water-pump questions, and larger repair-option discussions. Review does not guarantee that every engine, procedure, component or electronic function is within scope.
Do not select parts by “C15” or another family name alone. Caterpillar's public resources distinguish configurations and serial groups. A complete engine serial number, arrangement and existing part number help avoid an incorrect match.
Use Caterpillar's official resources
Caterpillar maintains official on-highway truck engine articles, manuals, maintenance information and repair-option resources. Use official specifications and procedures for the exact engine identity.
